Item 7b Memo
PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA STAFF BRIEFING Item No. 7b Date of Meeting April 21, 2009 DATE: March 31, 2009 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer FROM: Dakota Chamberlain, Director, Seaport Project Management SUBJECT: Briefing Update on the Performance Audit Report of Port of Seattle Construction Management - Lessons Learned. BACKGROUND On December 20, 2007 the Washington State Auditor issued a Performance Audit Report of Port of Seattle Construction Management. This audit was conducted under the authority of citizenapproved Initiative 900. On February 5, 2008 the Port of Seattle State Auditor Responses and Action Plan was presented to the Commission. Staff will provide regular updates to the Commission on progress towards implementing the Action Plan and responding to the 51 recommendations included in the audit report. BRIEFING OUTLINE Following submittal of the first annual report for the SAO Performance Audit on July 1, 2008, the Audit Response Team thought it would be appropriate and helpful to have a lessons learned session. This effort was facilitated by Annalee Luhmann and J. Loux from the Port's Human Resources and Development Division. Our intent in completing the Lessons Learned is to provide information to other Port departments that captures information that we think will be helpful in future performance audits. The purpose of this briefing is to share that information with the Commission.
