PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA Item No. 6a Date of Meeting January 13, 2009 DATE: January 7, 2009 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer FROM: Kurt Beckett, Managing Director, External Affairs SUBJECT: 2008 Port Awards BACKGROUND The Port of Seattle received eighteen major awards in 2008 recognizing achievements in a number of areas but particularly noteworthy were the eight awards recognizing the Port's environmental leadership or accomplishments. These awards were especially welcome given the Port's focus and signature, "Where a Sustainable World is Headed." The Port also received the Patriot Award signifying our support of employees who serve in the National Guard and the Reserve. Five awards deserve special mention: The American Association of Port Authorities' (AAPA) Comprehensive Environmental Management Award awarded jointed to the Ports of Seattle, Tacoma and Metro Vancouver for cooperation on the "Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy." The Airports Council International-North America's (ACI-NA) Environmental Achievement Award recognizing the airport's Comprehensive Stormwater Management Program. The Richard A. Griesbach Award of Excellence in the 2007 Airport Concessions Contest sponsored by ACI-NA for the excellent mix of national, regional and local products available throughout the airport. The Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Award and Certificate of Achievement for Financial Reporting.
