PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA STAFF BRIEFING Item No. 7a Date of Meeting April 14, 2009 DATE: March 26, 2009 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer FROM: Mike Merritt, Local Government Relations Manager, External Affairs SUBJECT: Briefing on South Harbor Truck Parking Work Group Recommendations The purpose of this briefing is to present the recommendations developed by the South Harbor Truck Parking Work Group. This briefing will include an overv iew of the work group participation, process, and summary of recommendations. BACKGROUND The South Harbor Truck Parking Work Group was initiated in summer 2008 by Commissioner Gael Tarleton in response to neighborhood concerns about drayage truck operations and overnight parking. This work group is a joint effort with City of Seattle and co-led with City Council member Sally Clark. Work Group participation included community, environmental, regulatory, and industry representatives. The work group met 5 times since August 2008 and in February 2009 developed a final set of recommendations, which are grouped by truck parking, truck routing, and anti-idling (attached). PREVIOUS COMMISSION ACTION March 25, 2008: Commission approved $450,000 for design and permitting to establish 10 acres at Terminal 10 as an interim truck parking facility.
