COMMISSION STUDY SESSION JULY 26, 2016 
The Port of Seattle Commission met in a study session, Tuesday, July 26, 2016, in the Seoul
Conference Room at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Seattle, Washington. Commissioners 
Albro, Creighton, and Felleman were present. Commissioners Bowman and Gregoire were absent. 
1.  CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by Commission President John Creighton.
2.  EXECUTIVE SESSION pursuant to RCW 42.30.110
The public meeting was immediately recessed to an executive session estimated to last 60 minutes
to discuss one matter relating to performance of a public employee. Following the executive
session, which lasted approximately 80 minutes, the public meeting reconvened at 1:28 p.m.
3.  LONG RANGE PLAN DISCUSSION
Presentation document(s) included a Commission agenda memorandum and presentation slides.
Presenter(s): Dave Caplan, Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives, and Bea Querido Rico, Strategic
Planning Program Manager, Strategic Initiatives.
The draft Port Long Range Plan was presented, and Commissioners provided feedback, including
guidance regarding incorporation of Century Agenda goals into day-to-day Port operations.
Commissioners emphasized that the document is a valuable tool for illustrating to the public how
the Port intends to accomplish its goals. Therefore, messages should be presented clearly, with
effective use of infographics and photos.
The Long Range Plan includes five High Performance Organization objectives, which align with the
Century Agenda. The final document will clearly explain the relationship between these objectives
and Century Agenda goals.
Regarding monitoring progress on the Long Range Plan, Commissioners suggested a mechanism
for periodic revision. Ms. Rico noted that there will be a dashboard, reviewed twice a year, and
updated monthly.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 2:48 p.m. due to loss of a quorum. However, the following remaining
updates were delivered to staff, visitors, and Commissioners Albro and Creighton:

Limitations of Translatable Documents

PDF files are created with text and images are placed at an exact position on a page of a fixed size.
Web pages are fluid in nature, and the exact positioning of PDF text creates presentation problems.
PDFs that are full page graphics, or scanned pages are generally unable to be made accessible, In these cases, viewing whatever plain text could be extracted is the only alternative.
