PORT OF SEATTLE
MEMORANDUM
COMMISSION AGENDA Item No. 5f
ACTION ITEM Date of Meeting March 26, 2013

DATE: March 18, 2013
TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer
FROM: Mary Gin Kennedy, Director of Commission Services
SUBJECT: Motion to Authorize Promotional Hosting for Port of Seattle Commissioners in
2013
ACTION REQUESTED:
Request Commission authorization for Commissioners to engage in promotional hosting during
Calendar Year 2013.
BACKGROUND:
Pursuant to RWC 53.36.140, the Port Commission adopted Resolution No. 2779 in 1979, which
established the rules and regulations governing promotional hosting for Port Commissioners and
Port employees. The resolution specifically authorized Port Commissioners to make such
expenditures. RCW 53.36.140 also states that Port Commissioners "shall not personally make
such expenditures, or seek reimbursement therefor, except where specific authorization of such
expenditures has been approved by the port commission."
To comply with state law, the Commission is required to approve promotional hosting
expenditures by Commissioners. This motion authorizes promotional hosting for Calendar Year
2013.
