PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA Item No. 5c Date of Meeting October 6, 2009 DATE: September 25, 2009 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Office FROM: Gary Schmitt, Labor Relations Manager SUBJECT: Letter of understanding on the Medical Plan with International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 286. ACTION REQUESTED: Request for authorization for the Chief Executive Officer to execute a Letter of Understanding (LOA) between the Port of Seattle and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 286 representing Operating Engineers in Aviation Maintenance. BACKGROUND This memorandum covers ninety (90) Operating Engineers in the Aviation Maintenance Division. SCOPE OF THE AGREEMENT Term of the Agreement June 1, 2009 May 31, 2011 Health and Welfare This memorandum will authorize the employee group to change medical plans to the Local 302/612 IUOE Health and Security Fund, to include Medical, Dental and Life Insurance Benefits. Executing the change prior to the execution of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, current set on the November 3, 2009 Commission agenda, will save the Port an estimated $20,000 due to the difference in the monthly premium per employee/ REQUESTED ACTION The Director of Labor Relations requests Port Commission authorization for the Chief Executive Officer to execute this new Letter of Understanding between the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 286 representing Operating Engineers in Aviation Maintenance.
