TO: Stephen P. Metruck, Executive Director
FROM: Mike Merritt, Commission Chief of Staff
SUBJECT: Approval of 2019 Commission International Travel Plan
ACTION REQUESTED
Request commission approval of a commission international travel plan for 2019, as attached.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Pursuant to Section 2 of Resolution 3604, the Port of Seattle Commission annually considers
and approves a motion authorizing anticipated commission international travel for the year.
This practice promotes transparency in the commission's conduct of international travel. Not all
approved trips materialize. Additions to the international travel plan will be approved
separately in public session should they arise.
JUSTIFICATION
Participating in the conferences provided for below will support port Century Agenda strategies
to 1) position the Puget Sound region as a premier international logistics hub; 2) advance the
region as a leading tourism destination and business gateway; and 3) be the greenest, and most
energy efficient port in North America.
The port will have the opportunity to engage in trade development with China and Japan and in
tourism development including meetings with tourism boards and industry partners. The port
will also continue to advance green maritime principles and focus on economic development
