Public Comment - Exhibit C
From: Nastassia Barber To: Commission-Public-Records Subject: [EXTERNAL] Comment for today"s meeting Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2021 7:36:24 AM WARNING: External email. Links or attachments may be unsafe. I'm Nastassia Barber, a Seattle resident emailing with comments for today's meeting. The materials in the "Study Session on Economic Recovery" cover some aspects of equity, such as equal pay, but ignore glaringly important aspects of equity in which the aviation industry must improve. If we are truly trying to foster a "broadly inclusive economy" and "eliminate race, gender, and geographic disparities in the region," we have to account for the effects airports have on neighboring communities. Professional development and equitable hiring practices only go so far when the areas near SEATAC include many of Seattle's people of color and people with lower incomes, and they are the brunt of the impact of aviation in Seattle. The resulting particulates contribute to cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervoussystemissues. The increased noise levels, which in Beacon Hill exceed the EPA's public health recommendations by 100-800%, contribute to additional cardiovascular and mental health problems. If people cannot stay healthy in their own homes, they cannot be expected to make an "economic recovery." Building a better economy in Seattle should involve focusing on community health instead of aviation expansion, which disproportionately negatively affects marginalized communities. PDF files are created with text and images are placed at an exact position on a page of a fixed size.
Web pages are fluid in nature, and the exact positioning of PDF text creates presentation problems.
PDFs that are full page graphics, or scanned pages are generally unable to be made accessible, In these cases, viewing whatever plain text could be extracted is the only alternative.
