SUBJECT: Environment and Sustainability Quarterly Update
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Environmental Center of Expertise (CoE) staff will provide a quarterly update to Commission on
environmental initiatives that began in 2016 as well as new initiatives starting or on-going in
2017. This update will not cover all environmental sustainability initiatives currently conducted
by the Port, and will address those that have deliverables or key outcomes in the first or second
quarter. Environmental initiatives to be presented at this update include:
Education/outreach projects that highlight our environmental efforts with the general
public, passengers, and our business partners,
Water initiatives that go beyond requirements and regulations such as our Salmon Safe
certifications, our storm water updates, and our carbon pilot project in the Duwamish,
Renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction projects including demonstration
projects for both maritime and aviation, and our energy efficiency projects,
Waste Reduction and Recycling efforts such as new airport concession requirements
aimed at diverting more waste away from our landfills, and a new plan for waste
reduction at Pier 69, and
Transportation initiatives aimed at promoting electric vehicle charging at Port-owned
properties, evaluating ground transportation options at the airport, improving our
commute trip reduction program, and a new program to offset emissions from air
travel.
We look forward to hearing feedback from the Commission on our approaches to the initiatives
presented.

PDF files are created with text and images are placed at an exact position on a page of a fixed size.
Web pages are fluid in nature, and the exact positioning of PDF text creates presentation problems.
PDFs that are full page graphics, or scanned pages are generally unable to be made accessible, In these cases, viewing whatever plain text could be extracted is the only alternative.
