COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING JANUARY 22, 2013 
The Port of Seattle Commission met in a special informational meeting Tuesday, January 22, 2012,
in the International Auditorium at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Seattle, Washington, for the
purpose of holding an informational public forum regarding  the process of appointing a
Commissioner to fill the vacancy created when Commissioner Tarleton resigns on January 31,
2013.  Commissioners Albro, Bryant, Creighton, and Holland were present.  Commissioner
Tarleton was absent. 
CALL TO ORDER 
The special informational meeting was called to order at 5:04 p.m. by Tom Albro, Commission
President. 
Presentations highlighting the operations of the Port of Seattle were made by Kurt Beckett, Chief of
Staff; Linda Styrk, Managing Director, Seaport Division; and Mark Reis, Managing Director,
Aviation Division. The following topics were then discussed at the informational forum: 
Divisional structure of the Port and its various lines of business. 
Environmental leadership of the Port of Seattle. 
Challenges facing the Port's Seaport Division. 
Policy issues affecting the Port's Aviation Division. 
Opportunities represented by the Century Agenda 25-year strategic plan. 
The effects of tourism promotion on Port business and the Port's role in tourism
promotion. 
The effects of and strategies for managing competition with other Puget Sound ports. 
Interest in development of a regional logistics center. 
Challenges associated with running for nonpartisan office throughout King County, as
opposed to running for office in a specific district of the County. 
Staffing of the Office of the Commission. 
Outreach by the Port to small businesses. 
The Port's relationship to other King County jurisdictions. 
Desirable qualities in a Commissioner appointee.
