With the announcement of the retirement of Port CEO Tay Yoshitani effective September 30,
2014, the Commission embarked on a nationwide search for a new chief executive.
Commissioners conducted a long, thorough process and selected Ted Fick from a group of
highly qualified applicants. A Tacoma native, Mr. Fick brings a deep commitment to the Puget
Sound region. He understands and embraces the Port's role as an economic development leader
for the Pacific Northwest.
Mr. Fick has over 25 years of leadership experience in major manufacturing and transportation
organizations including oversight of international operations. He spent many years working in
the Puget Sound region's manufacturing and industrial community, beginning at his family's
Tacoma-based company, Fick Foundry. He then continued for almost two decades at PACCAR
Inc., one of the Pacific Northwest's primary manufacturers, where he held leadership positions in
both PACCAR and their Kenworth division.
In 2000, Mr. Fick left Puget Sound and has since held multiple leadership positions in logistics
and manufacturing companies. Most recently, he served as the CEO of Polar Corporation LLC, a
trailer and component parts manufacturer based in Minnesota. At Polar, Mr. Fick led an
organization with multiple operating divisions and a workforce of 2,000 employees in both
represented and non-represented positions experience crucial to the CEO of the Port of Seattle.
