6f memo
COMMISSION AGENDA MEMORANDUM Item No. 6F ACTION ITEM Date of Meeting January 9, 2018 DATE: December 29, 2017 TO: Dave Soike, Interim Executive Director FROM: Stuart Mathews, Director, Aviation Maintenance Luisa Bangs, Senior Manager, Facilities, Fleet, Systems and Grounds, Aviation Maintenance Eric Schaefer, Manager, Field Crew, Aviation Maintenance SUBJECT: Purchase of Sewer/Catch Basin Cleaner (Vacuum) Truck (CIP #C800983) (Short Form) Amount of this request: $450,000 Total estimated project cost: $450,000 ACTION REQUESTED Request Commission authorization for the Executive Director to purchase a catch-basin cleaning truck to replace an existing truck for an amount not to exceed $450,000. SUMMARY This action is proposed with an abbreviated one-page memo in response to Commission bylaws discussions on December 12, 2017. At that time, commissioners suggested a trial effort to use a shortened memo for action on the unanimous consent calendar to reduce staff time for action items less than $1 million that the Executive Director considers routine. This project will replace an existing truck that is 12 years old and at the end of its expected useful life. This equipment is used by Aviation Maintenance to clean storm water drain infrastructure, vacuum catch basins, clear clogged lines (sanitary sewer, storm water, industrial wastewater), and perform pothole excavations. The current equipment has become unreliable and has been augmented with the use of rented equipment. This purchase is included in the 2018-2022 capital budget and plan of finance. There is an attachment associated with this memo consisting of the financial costs of the alternatives. Template revised September 22, 2016.
