6g. 2018 International Travel Plan
COMMISSION AGENDA MEMORANDUM Item No. 6g ACTION ITEM Date of Meeting May 22, 2018 DATE: May 16, 2018 (Revised May 21, 2018) TO: Stephen P. Metruck, Executive Director FROM: Mike Merritt, Commission Chief of Staff SUBJECT: Commission international travel in May and June 2018 ACTION REQUESTED Request Commission authorization for international travel in May and June 2018 to British Columbia. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Pursuant to Section 2 of Resolution No. 3604, each calendar year, the Port Commission considers and approves a motion authorizing possible commission international travel that can be anticipated for the year. This practice promotes transparency in the commission's conduct of international travel. When authorization at the start of the year is not feasible, the resolution provides for alternative methods of approval. At this time, the commission's complete international travel plan for 2018 is not yet ready for authorization; however, commissioners intend to participate in the 2018 GreenTech Environmental Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, May 30 June 1, 2018, and travel to Victoria, British Columbia, to meet with tourism and international travel officials. DETAILS Participating in the conference will provide the Port of Seattle the opportunity to engage with Green Marine participants on issues related to environmental certification performance indicators and topics relevant to vessel and port sustainability. Engaging with tourism and international travel officials during their travel to Victoria supports the Port's Century Agenda strategy to advance the region as a leading tourism destination and business gateway. An authorization for other international travel in 2018 will be presented for consideration at another commission public meeting in the near future. ATTACHMENTS TO THIS REQUEST None.
