Item No. 6j supp Meeting Date: August 11, 2020 Interlocal Agreement with University of Washington Sea Grant Program Hershman Fellowship Positions Aug. 11, 2020 Request Authorization for Executive Director to sign an Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with UW Sea Grant program. The ILA will allow the Port to host two 12-month Hershman Fellowship positions (post-grads) Each position requires a payment of $29,000 which will be funded through 2020-21 expense budget for Env. Center of Expertise No funding authorization requested at this time 2 Background Port applied as a host agency in March 2020 Participated in a matching workshop in May 2020 Interviewed seven qualified candidates for two positions that will be shared between Environmental and OEDI Advance both environmental and social equity priorities Matched two great candidates that have the right combination of skills and enthusiasm: Elise Lasky (UW - Marine Affairs and Public Administration) Dorothy Mulkern (UW - Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning) 3 Scope of Work Work in partnership with Environmental, OEDI and External Relations to advance near-term Port priorities: Climate and air pollution Habitat restoration and blue carbon initiatives Ocean acidification action plan Environmental outreach, engagement and stewardship Environmental & societal data analysis (Equity Index project) Provide valuable career experience in maritime field 4 Schedule Commission authorization Aug. 11, 2020 Execute ILA Sept. 7, 2020 Fellowships start Sept. 16, 2020 Fellowships end August 2021 5
