Original letter that was sent to the Port of Seattle To whom it may concern, I am a 10 year resident of Seatac. lam a proud father of an incredible 5 year old girl, for whom I will do whatever I can to make sure that she lives a long and self actualized laden existence. I also have a love for humanity as a whole and want the best, not only for my daughter, but also for her friends, their families, and our Earth and every living organism that exists on it. As a loving father, I have the paramount duty to take care of my darling daughter, but what I've learned in researching the effects of the tree cutting at Seatac airport has been deeply disturbing. What I've learned about emissions from airplane emissions have: "' Double the lead level as the National Ambient Air Quality Standard threshold set by the EPA, which in children can damage the central nervous system, resulting in learning disabilities, stunted growth, hearing loss, and can cause anemia. *Findings also find that lead poisoning creates higher level of violence, kidney failure, cardiovascular disease, cancer, strokes, miscarriages, and premature births. *The toxins associated with airports also correlate with higher levels of ADHD, as well as the high noise levels create a problem for students to concentrate in general. *Because of their higher metabolism, children are affected five times the amount of adults by the toxins that are in the air around airports. * The air quality affected by airports can range as far as 10 miles away. *Even though cars were shifted from lead to unleaded gasoline, which correlated with an increase of LG. around highways, airplanes, were not required to do so. There is a current push to have them adhere to the Clean Air Act, but airlines are expected to fight this. I'm wondering how removing 3000 trees is going to improve conditions? Your assertion that eventually air quality will improve because of the trees that will replace them falls short of satisfactory because eventually could mean 5, 10, or even 20 years down the line, which will mean that my daughter will grow up in an unhealthy environment that has been incurred by your decisions. I want to, need to believe that you will have a different attitude towards the communities affected by the airport than past Port of Seattle members. I have been told that airport expansion and the increase of revenue has been the MO. of pat commissions, but I can tell that this is not where you all are coming from. You have good hearts and have a desire to do the right thing, To that end, i would like you to consider the following proposals: 1. Take to heart the original 1997 EIS, which suggested moving 6 schools for noise and emissions impact. 2. Create a way to better compensate communities for not just their inconvenience, but the fact that they are sacrificing their health for the Ports' benefit. 3. Commission a study in concert with the UW and Highline hospital to study the specific health impacts of the airport on surrounding areas. 4. Create a impartial commission that looks at all the ways that emissions can be mitigated. S. l need you to find a maximum capacity for the airport that includes the impact it has on local communities.
