Re: Great Northern Corridor Multistate Planning and Development Study

Dear Mr. Secretary,

The Port of Seattle is writing to support the Great Northern Corridor Multistate Planning and
Development Study, for which FY 2011 Multistate Corridor Operations and Management
program funds are being requested. The Port is strongly supportive of projects that improve
freight rail movement to and from the Pacific Northwest gateway ports and the US Midwest.
We see this as a great opportunity to complement the work were already doing in Washington
and Oregon to improve our national and international competitiveness in the ever changing
logistics supply chain.

The proposed study will identify the opportunities and challenges associated with the Great
Northern Corridor from the Pacic Northwest to the Great Lakes. Funds will also be used to
plan and conduct stakeholder outreach activities to promote the corridor.

If the grant application is successful, we are willing to provide a $5,000 in nonfederal match
and participate in the study and outreach activities.

As funding applications are evaluated, I ask that you please consider the broad support for this
application along with the merits of the proposed activities.

RE: Multistate Corridor Operations and Management Grant Program

Dear Mr. Secretary,

This letter conveys our support for the Great Northern Corridor Multistate Planning and
Development Study, for which scal year 2012 Multistate Corridor Operations and
Management program funds are being requested by the Montana Department of
Transportation. We are committed to provide a $10,000 local match which may include "in-
kind services" ifgrant funds are awarded.

The proposed study will build upon ongoing efforts to identify the opportunities and needs
associated with the Great Northern Corridor from the Pacic Northwest to the Great Lakes.
Funds will be used to develop solutions to enhance the Corridor by addressing topics such
as safety, performance, connectivity and economic opportunity.

As funding applications are evaluated, I ask that you please consider my support for this
application along with the merits of the proposed activities.
