DATE: January 30, 2015
TO: Ted Fick, Chief Executive Officer

SUBJECT: Duwamish Area: SoDo Transportation Update
SYNOPSIS
Port staff will update the Commission on transportation issues in the SoDo area of
Seattle's Duwamish Manufacturing/Industrial Center.
BACKGROUND
Seattle's Duwamish Manufacturing/Industrial Center is home to much of Seattle's
industrial base, with the primary marine shipping area, King County International Airport
and a number of heavy industries. These industries rely on efficient and effective
transportation infrastructure. The port's container operations benefit from unique and
invaluable access to deep water berths, intermodal rail facilities, and Interstates 5 and 90.
However, as land uses and transportation activity intensify, there is continual pressure to
improve operations in the area. The Port continues working closely with our partners at
the City, County, State Department of Transportation and partner transit agencies to
optimize the flow, throughput and resiliency in the area.
The staff presentation will brief the Commission on:
Recent regional transportation investments in the harbor
Under construction and upcoming projects and plans, including:
o North Argo Access / East Marginal Way Phase 2
o Heavy Haul Corridor
o South Holgate Street Rail Crossing
o S. Lander Street Grade Separation
Future projects and activities affecting transportation
