It also gives flexibility to store unlike commodities in abutting lockers. Rack Shelving units, as used in the Pilot Program, would help maximize use of space and organize commodities. Received Seattle Fire Dept. concurrence on use of customer supplied lidded corrugated bulk storage boxes (Gaylord boxes) or wooden boxes to store Group A Plastics which will allow Group A Plastics to be treated as Class I-IV Commodities and stored at a height of 12 feet (rather than 6') and eliminate the 2-foot minimum separation between them. June 25, 2013 FT Net Sheds Code Compliance Improvements 5 Making It Happen Enhanced Option 1 (continued): With Stakeholder and Seattle Fire Dept. feedback, staff continued to refine design. Held Open House in December 2012 to showcase two test net lockers & get feedback. Test net lockers were well received by open house attendees. Obtained Fishermen's Terminal Advisory Committee endorsement. June 25, 2013 FT Net Sheds Code Compliance Improvements 6 Enhanced Option 1 Solution Costs $2,000,000 Option 1 cost presented last year for design funding request was a planning-level estimate. Current total project cost estimate is $2,950,000. Contributing reasons for higher costs include the following: Partition walls are needed to maximize storage potential for fishermen and allow simple master storage plan and compliance monitoring. Existing rack shelving inventory is inadequate and modification is needed to the rack system in order to comply with code rack purchase is necessary. Implementation of enhanced Option 1 would help retain commercial fishing tenants at the Terminal and would support Port's Century Agenda of doubling the economic value of the fishing and maritime sectors.
