SUBJECT: Special Order of Bu mess Recognition of the POSPD 2012 Officer of the Year

The Port of Seattle Police Department (POSPD) respectfully requests the recognition of our 2012
Officer of the Year, Steven Ivey. '

Detective Ivey has been selected by his peers as the 2012 Officer of the Year. This award was
established to recognize officers who have demonstrated exceptional achievement, the highest
standards of competence and professionalism, and shown a genuine commitment to their
profession, the department, and the public we serve. His entire chain of command joins me in
affirming that he is absolutely the person to represent these values.

Detective Ivey's nominations tell us that he "maintains a team approach to the Criminal
Investigations Division....and as such is always willing to assist other members of CID. " "He
has shown true leadership throughout his career at POSPD by mentoring others, providing
feedback to detectives, patrol o'icers and the public." We learned from his nomination that he
will voice his concerns about issues and most importantly, will offer solutions to problems.
Detective Ivey has filled in as Acting Sergeant on numerous occasions because of his experience,
leadership and ability to accomplish the mission of the POSPD.

In addition to his regular duties, Detective Ivey has maintained his membership and commitment
to the POSPD's Dive Team where, once again, he has consistently displayed his leadership and
professional capabilities. Last year numerous "live" and "spent" World War II and Vietnam War
era shells were located underwater around the cruise ship terminals. As a member of the dive
team, Detective Ivey spent many hours underwater attempting to locate and recover the shells a
dangerous task.

Detective Ivey constantly and consistently displays leadership, integrity and accountability. He is
a humble leader of the POSPD. He is truly one of the primary reasons that POSPD is the
"nation's finest port police department" and very deserving of the honor as the 2012 Officer of
the Year.
