SUBJECT:  Special Order of Business - 2011 Awards Received by the Port 

BACKGROUND:
The Port of Seattle had a very productive year in 2011, as evidenced by several major awards 
received in recognition of achievements in a number of areas. Particularly noteworthy were the
awards for the port's environmental leadership, centennial products and financial reporting. In 
all, the port received 14 awards. Below is a brief summary of awards that deserve special
attention, and a comprehensive list. 

Environmental: 
Puget Sound Regional Council VISION 2040 Award - for the Clean Air Strategy implemented
by the ports of Tacoma and Seattle, recognizing innovative projects and programs that help
ensure a sustainable future as the region grows. 
Airports Council International  North America, Environmental Achievement Award  
Special/Innovative Projects, for Sustainable Aviation Fuels Northwest Program 
Seattle Business Magazine Green 50 Award  Presented to the top 50 most sustainably
operated companies and organizations in Washington. The Port of Seattle was named for top
honors among 14 organizations in the state. 
Financial Reporting: 
Government Finance Officers Association - Excellence in Financial Reporting Award  The 
Accounting and Financial Reporting Department has won this recognition for the sixth
consecutive year.

Government Finance Officers Association - Distinguished Budget Presentation Award  
The Finance and Budget Department has won this recognition for its budget document for four
consecutive years. 
Centennial Products: 
American Association of Port Authorities Communications Excellence Award  for the
interactive Centennial Map and Timeline 
American Association of Port Authorities Communications Excellence Award  for the 
centennial documentary, "Voices of the Port," celebrating the port's centennial 
Other 2011 awards include: 
American Association of Port Authorities Comprehensive Environmental Management
Award 
American Association of Port Authorities Stakeholder Awareness, Education and
Involvement Award for the Terminal 117 Cleanup Plan and Community Involvement program 
enterpriseSeattle Diamond Award for Special Achievement  Presented in the Innovative
Program Commuter Challenge category for Sea-Tac Airport's commute-trip reduction efforts 
King County Solid Waste Division's Best Workplace Recycling Award Honor Roll  for
Sea-Tac Airport's recycling program 
Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star Designation for Port of Seattle Headquarters 
energy saving programs 
Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Achievement Award  presented to the
ports of Seattle, Tacoma and Metro Port Vancouver recognizing the Northwest Ports Clean Air
Strategy for innovative techniques that reduce or prevent air pollution or waste 
Pacific Northwest International Section of the Air and Waste Management Association,
Environmental Achievement Award  recognizing the Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy 
International Academy of Visual Arts 17th Annual Communicator Awards, Award of
Excellence  for the interactive Centennial Map and Timeline celebrating the port's centennial
