SUBJECT:  Special Order of Business  Swearing in of new Police Officers and new
Firefighters 
The Port of Seattle Police Department (POSPD) and Port of Seattle Fire Department (POSFD)
have recently hired six new members. As part of their introduction to the Port, the Commission
President will publicly administer an "oath of honor" to the new members. Three police officers
and three firefighters are being sworn at this commission meeting. 
Ofc. Courtney Muse started working for the Port of Seattle Police Department on January 30,
2011. He was born in Brawley, California, and raised in Nogales, Arizona. Prior to coming to
the Port of Seattle Police Department, he was a police officer in Tucson, Arizona, for six years 
where he worked as a patrol officer in the West Operations Division as well with the Operations
West Community Response Team followed by being a member of the narcotics squad where he
worked as an undercover officer. Officers Muse moved to Seattle with his wife where he enjoys
many outdoor activities as well as Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. 
Officer Brian Petersen grew up in Western Washington. Following high school, he joined the
U.S. Navy and was assigned to a submarine stationed in Silverdale, Washington, where he also
received his education in technical studies and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 2010.
Brian worked as the Deputy Sheriff in Kitsap County before joining the Port of Seattle Police
Department on April 18, 2011. Ofc. Petersen spends most of his off time participating in family
related activities with his wife of eight years and three children. 
Officer Hope Jones also began working for the Port of Seattle Police Department on April 18,
2011. She was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Ofc. Jones played basketball at Miami Dade
Community College and Barry University where she majored in Criminal Justice. She has over
thirteen years of experience, starting as a Correctional Officer and then a police officer with the
City of Miami Police Department. She worked as a Neighborhood Resource Officer, Computer
Support, Bicycle Patrol, and s with the homeless in a unit called the Downtown Beat Homeless
Detail. Ofc. Jones is motivated to work with individuals in a culturally diverse society and she
has honored her badge with a commitment to her oath as a law enforcement officer. Officer

Jones' parents, Willie and Georgia Jones, have been married for 56 years and she has five
brothers and two sisters. 
Jenson Evans graduated from the Washington State Fire Academy where he was honored with
the prestigious Leadership Award.  He started his career as a resident firefighter with East
Jefferson Fire & Rescue before becoming a part-time firefighter and eventually a career
firefighter with Marysville Fire District.  Jenson is involved in numerous community activities 
and fundraisers. He joined the Port of Seattle Fire Department on July 9, 2011.
Eric Conklin has over eight years of experience in the Fire Service; working with the Bodega
Bay Fire Protection District, Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department and the Presidio of San
Francisco Fire Department. Eric and his wife moved from California and joined the Port of
Seattle Fire Department on July 9, 2011. 
Einar Mikkelsen also joined us from California where he started his career as an Emergency
Medical Technician before joining Merced Fire Department. Einar graduated with a Bachelor of
Science in Professional Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Oakland,
CA. Einar moved to Seattle with his wife and joined the Port of Seattle Fire Department on July
9, 2011.
