PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA STAFF BRIEFING Item No. 4d Date of Meeting May 24, 2011 DATE: May 12, 2011 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer FROM: Charla Skaggs, Corporate Media Officer SUBJECT: Special Order of Business: Recognition of Goodwill National Graduate of the Year, Michael Bulling Michael Bulling, a member of a custodial crew at Sea-Tac Airport, was honored in 2010 as Graduate of the Year by Goodwill Industries in Tacoma. Bulling has worked at the airport for three years now, taking a bus eaSch day from his home in Lakewood all while dealing with the challenge of living with cerebral palsy. The port previously celebrated Mr. Bulling's award on June 22, 2010, and thanked him for the inspiration his dedication and commitment offers to everyone. He has become a valued partner for the Port of Seattle. On May 2, 2011, Mr. Bulling was chosen as the Goodwill Industries National Graduate of the Year. The honor highlights his own commitment to excellence, and to using his skills and abilities to serve the community around him. We are fortunate to count him as a member of the port team, and to celebrate the can-do spirit and perseverance that is his hallmark. The Port of Seattle is committed to creating jobs and economic growth for the region, and to ensuring that many citizens and businesses have the opportunity to participate in the port's businesses. Tacoma Goodwill uses both donations and business revenue to offer programs that assist people with disabilities or disadvantages with finding meaningful work. This year, Tacoma Goodwill Industries will help more than 7,500 people with education, job training and placement so they can become independent self-supporting citizens.
