Editor, Fishermen's News:

The May 2011 edition of Fishermen's News included an editorial that questioned the Port of
Seattle's commitment to Fishermen's Terminal and the commercial shing industry in Seattle
and stated that commissioners are "pessimistic" about the industry's future. In fact, our
commissioners and CEO remain committed to the maritime industry in general and commercial
shing in particular and we are making investments that demonstrate that support.

In just over ve years, commissioners have voted unanimously to invest nearly $38 million in
capital improvements at Fisherman's Terminal. These projects include renovating many of the
docks that are home to the North Pacic Fishing Fleet; reconstructing the south wall of the
facility; installing a new HVAC system; and a pilot project that will bring the net lockers up to
Seattle re code and create storage facilities that better reect the needs of our tenants.

Comments quoted in the editorial reect commission efforts to grapple with the difcult

economic realities of maritime industry as we plan for the next 25 years. Commissioners are
considering how the port can best invest limited resources, so that our investments bolster the
industry and help to ensure continued jobs and economic growth well into our next century.

Fishermen's Terminal was the port's first facility, and it is vital to the region economically and
culturally. We are honored to serve as its stewards.

Sincerely,

Commissioner Bill Bryant, President
