PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA Item No. 4a Date of Meeting August 10, 2010 DATE: August 3, 2010 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer FROM: Phil Lutes, Deputy Managing Director, Seaport Division JoAnne Lee, Protocol and Program Manager, Public Affairs SUBJECT: Special Order of Business Seafair Fleet Week BACKGROUND The arrival of the fleet for Seafair is a long Seattle tradition. The Port of Seattle is a strong supporter and partner of this community festival with Seafair, U.S. Navy and U.S. Navy League. This year, the Port is providing a home to the fleet, August 3 9, at Terminal 25, Terminal 46 north and Pier 66. The fleet will make its entrance into Elliott Bay on August 4 for the Parade of Ships which will feature three U.S. Navy ships, three Royal Canadian Navy ships, a U.S. Coast Guard search and rescue demonstration, fireboats and the U.S. Navy Band. Thousands will welcome the sailors, participate in the Seafair Fleet Week activities and visit the Port's three facilities for the public ship tours Thursday Sunday, August 5 8. Navy League of the U.S. Seattle Council, Seafair Fleet Week Events Co-Chairs: Diane Jaffa, President and Executive Director, and Thomas Jaffa, National Vice President Navy League of the U.S. will make a presentation to the Port as part of this special order of business.
