ACTION ITEM Date of Meeting June 26, 2018

TO: Stephen P. Metruck, Executive Director
FROM: Mike Merritt, Commission Chief of Staff
SUBJECT: Approval of 2018 Commission International Travel Plan
ACTION REQUESTED
Request Commission approval of the Commission's 2018 international travel plan.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Pursuant to Section 2 of Resolution No. 3604, the Port Commission annually considers and
approves a motion authorizing anticipated Commission international travel for the year. This
practice promotes transparency in the commission's conduct of international travel. Not all of
the approved trips may materialize. Any additional international travel not included in this
request will be approved separately by the Commission in an open public meeting.
JUSTIFICATION
Participating in the conferences provided for below will support three of the Port's Century
Agenda strategies to 1) Advance the region as a leading tourism destination and business
gateway, 2) Use our influence as an institution to promote small business growth and
workforce development, and 3) Be the greenest, and most energy efficient port in North
America. The Port will have the opportunity to explore maritime innovation, including
electrification and other maritime technologies; engage in trade development with China;
participate in an international ports workforce development panel; and engage in tourism
development including meetings with tourism boards and industry partners.
