Links or attachments may be unsafe. Dear Commissioners, I would like to comment on your proposed 2021 Legislative Agenda, specifically the Port's support for a gas tax increase. I agree with you on a gas tax increase. The gas tax is an appropriate source of revenue for highways. It also discourages driving by making it somewhat more expensive, reducing greenhouse emissions. Given the current climate crisis, I urge you to also support an increase on the tax on aviation and jet fuel. Currently these are taxed at about half the rate of auto fuel. Parity in tax rates would better reflect the true cost of flying, in dollar terms. In climate terms, aviation fuel has 3 times the climate impact of fuel on the ground (see https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1352231020305689?via%3Dihub).
