Commissioners,
The proposal in Agenda item 10c that we, as taxpayers, pay more for the Port operations in 2021 and the
following two years is outrageous. You must reject this resolution.
People living under SEATAC flight paths already pay with their health, due to the well-documented
adverse effects of the air pollution and noise. As I often mention, these adverse effects fall
disproportionately on people of color and those with low income. But that's not enough, you want all of us
-- including those burdened by air and noise pollution -- to pay more taxes as well. In the meantime, you
are taking steps to cut costs for aviation corporations.
As you know, the 2017 King County Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory shows that flights from
SEATAC are a major source of CO2 emissions, with an even larger impact when the non-CO2 warming
effects of contrails are accounted for. I don't want to pay any taxes that support Port operations if you
continue to let this happen. On the other hand, I would gladly pay more taxes if they were being put
towards planning the degrowth of aviation that is necessary to avert climate catastrophe.
I find current plans unconscionable. Reject Resolution No. 3780.
Sincerely,
Laura Gibbons
