Port of Seattle Staff,
Please let me know that you've received my written comment (below) for the Commissioners'
5/25 meeting. And please summarize my comment as follows:
For an environmentally and economically secure future we must work toward an immediate
and effective limitation/reduction in aviation (the opposite of the planned expansion in our
region). The IEAjust released a report calling for replacementof short flights with rail and
limiting longer business and leisure flights to 2019 levels by 2050.

Port of Seattle Commissioners,
While listening to the Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission's presentation in
regards to current plans to expand our aviation capacity I urge you to keep in mind the
following recommendations from the International Energy Agency (IEA), whose missions
include promoting affordable and secure energy supplies that will aideconomic growth.
The IEA recently released a report that calls for short flights to be replaced by rail, and for
long-haul business and leisure flights to be capped at 2019 levels, by 2050. The climate crisis
will quickly become an economic crisis as well if effective immediate action is not taken. As
aviation is one of our region's largest contributors to the climate crisis this is where we must
start. To work toward an equitable degrowth of aviation we must ensure stable employment
for current aviation industry employees and work to mitigate the harms done to airportimpacted
communities.
Thank you for your time,
Sharla Dodd
