STAFF BRIEFING Date of Meeting December 11, 2012

DATE: December 6, 2012
TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer
FROM: Linda Styrk, Managing Director, Seaport
Mary Gin Kennedy, Director of Commission Services
SUBJECT: Duwamish Transportation Management Association Briefing

The Port of Seattle approved a $50,000 sponsorship request from the Duwamish
Transportation Management Association (Duwamish TMA) on November 6, 2012, to
help fund a business and community outreach undertaking focused on the transportation
and mitigation needs of the Port's container terminals and on Duwamish Manufacturing
Industrial Council (MIC) freight and traffic management issues and concerns. The work
is designed to lead to the publication of a report and one or more public forums, to be
completed within six months. The Port's sponsorship will allow the program to get
underway before the end of 2012.
This research will inform the Port, regional decision-makers and the general public about
the Port's facilities and long-standing Port, maritime sector and Duwamish MIC
transportation assets, needs and concerns, and how those assets, needs and concerns are
linked to the Port's, the City of Seattle's and King County's continued economic success.
The report will present findings and recommendations on freight and traffic
improvements that will be necessary to support the continued vitality of the Port and the
manufacturing and industrial sectors, which support thousands of jobs in our region.
Dave Gering, the Executive Director of the Duwamish TMA, will brief the Commission
on this project.
