SUBJECT:  Recognition of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport's Perfect Score in 
Annual FAA FAR Part 139 Airport Certification/Safety Inspection 

BACKGROUND: 
On February 3, 2012, for the fifth time in the last ten years, Seattle-Tacoma International
Airport (Airport) earned a zero-discrepancy score on its annual Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) Part 139 Airport Certification/Safety Inspection. 
This inspection is the central regulatory review by which the Airport retains its Operating
Certificate and is the ultimate measure of our performance as a team in maintaining the
highest levels of safety at the region's largest air transportation hub. This four -day
inspection includes: 
Airport self-inspection program 
Training programs 
Safety procedures with a focus on preventing runway incursions 
Low visibility procedures 
Fire Department response times 
Vehicle driver training on the airfield 
Airport emergency plan 
Snow and ice control procedures 
Ground vehicle movement 
Aircraft fueling procedures and fuel truck safety 
Runway and taxiway markings 
Runway and airfield conditions 
Electrical systems 
Wildlife management 
Examination of all Airfield and Fire Department operational records

During the out-briefing, FAA inspectors complimented Airport staff for their 
professionalism and dedication to our mission. Specific accolades were made in regard
to our collective performance given the impacts recent winter weather had upon the
airfield. 
A great deal is owed to the many who make the success of these inspections possible.
Thanks go to the Fire Department, Aviation Maintenance, Aviation Finance and Budget, 
Emergency Planning and Aviation Operations for the day-to-day stewardship of our
Airport Operating Certificate.
