PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSIONAGENDA Item No. 4c Date of Meeting July 26, 2011 A:.A1::111...}:JA,::_,..BAT'EA:;;A .AA.A ,Z'ZIIy2 .1:A201111A A..A.AA. , TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Ofcer FROM: Ron Harmon, Airport r Emergency Manager, SeaTac Airport SUBJECT: 2011 Triennial/Law Enforcement Full Scale Exercises at Sea-Tao Airport BACKGROUND: Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139 requires airports to conduct a full scale aireld disaster preparedness and response exercise every 36 months in order to maintain their certification. SeaTac is an Index E airport (the category of airports servicing the largest commercial aircraft) so this exercise must include 100 aircraft "casualties" (a minimum of 100 live volunteers presenting simulated injuries). On July 15, 2011, staff conducted the triennial exercise as part of the Airport's Certification Program. Port employees and other key partneragency stakeholders from three counties participated. This exercise was preceded by a Law Enforcement full Scale Exercise with a scenario based on a seized aircraft. This exercise also had wide multiagency participation. The goal of both exercises was to test and assess our existing plans and policies in order to identify gaps to be addressed. On July 26, 2011, staff will brief the Commission on these events and provide an opportunity for questions and discussion. OTHER DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS BRIEFING: ME PowerPoint
