PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA STAFF BRIEFING Item No. 7a Date of Meeting June 07, 2011 DATE: May 26, 2011 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer FROM: Marie Fritz, Manager, Cruise Services & Business Development and Bruce Laing, Neighbors' Advisory Committee Chairperson SUBJECT: Terminal 91 - Neighbors' Advisory Committee 2010 Annual Report and Chairperson Nomination The Terminal 91 Neighbors' Advisory Committee (NAC) is composed of representatives of the Magnolia Community Club and Queen Anne Community Council. Together with representatives of the Port of Seattle, NAC operates within the terms of the Terminal 91 Short Fill Redevelopment Agreement (as amended 1985 and 1998). The Committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month at Pier 69. The 2010 Annual Activity Report has been prepared for presentation to the Port Commission and executives by the NAC Chairperson, Bruce Laing. The NAC greatly appreciates the opportunity to give a short overview of the 2010 Annual Report to the Commission. According to the Short Fill Redevelopment Agreement as amended 1998, which established the NAC, the Port of Seattle is required to provide a Chairperson who is neither a resident of Magnolia or Queen Anne nor an employee of the Port of Seattle. This is managed through a service contract with 501 Commons (formally Executive Service Corp of Washington) who seeks out highly qualified individuals to fill this role. This is a five year contract in the amount of $35,000. The Short Fill Redevelopment Agreement also specifies that the Chairperson is nominated by the Port of Seattle Commission and approved by the Magnolia Community Club and the Queen Anne Community Council. Port staff requests the Commission to accept the attached letter as the Port of Seattle Commission action to nominate Mr. Bruce Laing to continue in his role as chair for the Neighborhood Advisory Board. Mr. Laing has acted as Chairman since 2007. OTHER DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS REQUEST: Neighbors' Advisory Committee Annual Report. Bruce Laing Biography. Letter of Nomination. 1
