7b Memo

PORT OF SEATTLE
MEMORANDUM

COMMISSION AGENDA Item No. 7b
Date of Meeting June 1, 2010
DATE: May 26, 2010
TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer
FROM: Jane Kilburn, Director of Public Affairs
SUBJECT: Port Centennial Planning

BACKGROUND
The Port's Centennial is next year. Our communication objectives are to: Heighten awareness
among King County citizens about the Port's role in the economic vitality of the region; engage
citizens in a sustainable future; thank and honor the community, customers, tenants, labor, tribes,
business partners and employees for their support; and to mark the accomplishments of the past
100 years.
The Port has both an internal and an external planning committee, and there have been many
ideas discussed for how to commemorate the occasion and involve citizens.
This briefing will outline the draft scope of the Centennial programs and activities, in preparation
for a discussion about a mid-year 2010 budget request scheduled for the June 22 Commission
meeting. It also will include a brief discussion about the American Association of Port
Authorities national conference, which the Port is hosting in September 2011, and some ideas on
how the Centennial can be used as a platform to advance the Century Agenda.
