SUBJECT: Special Order of Business: Small Business Champion Awards

BACKGROUND
The Port is celebrating the second annual Small Business Champion Awards. These awards
recognize a Port employee or team who has championed increased Small Business participation
at the Port during calendar year 2009 and a Small Business from our roster who provided
outstanding products or services to the Port also in 2009.
The 2010 Internal and External Small Business Champion honorees are:
Aviation Maintenance Small Works Team: John Deen, CPO Contract Administrator and
Jeff Martens, Av/Maintenance Small Works Inspector.
"Jeff and John are a successful team who have worked tirelessly ensuring that AV/Maintenance
Small Business contractors understand and comply with the applicable laws, contract terms,
safety requirements and how to professionally interface with the Port departments and staff who
receive the work performed by the contractors. This consistent effort is demonstrated in the case
of excellent interaction with CD Construction, a small business regional contractor, who
successfully completed a repair project in baggage claim at the airport as well as their ongoing
work with landscaping, glazing, and flooring contractors."
Doug Bean.
Westgro Corporation
"The Westgro landscaping team working at Seattle Tacoma International Airport is an
outstanding performing contractor in the following areas:
Employees are proactive and self motivated in keeping all landscape areas well groomed and
free of litter throughout the year, which is key to the appearance of our airport as the
landscaping is one of the first things you see when you approach the airport and one of the
last you see when you depart.
Employees are always looking out for the environment and understand the Port's commitment
to be the cleanest and greenest in the country.
