PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA Item No. 4a Date of Meeting April 2, 2013 DATE: March 27, 2013 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer FROM: Mary Gin Kennedy, Director of Commission Services SUBJECT: Special Order of Business Commission Activities Report At the first Commission meeting of every month, the Commission will note its major activities of the previous month. Activities during the month of March 2013 included: Appointed Courtney Gregoire to vacant Position No. 2 on the Port Commission and hosted an Oath of Office ceremony for her. Opened and closed applications for vacant Position No. 3 on the Port Commission. Selected and announced seven finalists for Position No. 3 on the Port Commission. Introduced Senator Patty Murray at the 2013 National Working Waterfronts & Waterways Symposium in Tacoma. Authored a commentary published in Transportation Issues Daily on trends impacting PNW ports based on attendance at the Trans Pacific Maritime conference. Co-signed a letter to Washington State Senator Andy Hill, with the Valley Cities Association and the Port of Tacoma, on streamlined sales tax mitigation in the 2013-2015 operating budget. Sent letters to the Port of Tacoma and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 23 condoling the accidental death of an ILWU member Jeff Surber. Participated in the Washington Public Ports Association's Port Day in Olympia and met with King County and other state legislators during the month. Participated in the debut of live music as part of the "Music Initiative" at Seattle- Tacoma International Airport. Spoke at an event hosted by the Eastside Rail Corridor Regional Advisory Council. Was interviewed by Ross Reynolds on KUOW's "The Conversation." Attended the Washington Tourism Alliance Summit in Olympia. Attended Puget Sound Partnership's Ecosystem Coordination Board meeting. Attended a meeting of the Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board. Attended a meeting of the Highline Forum.
