DATE: October 2, 2012

SUBJECT: Special Order of Business: Seafair Fleet Week Recognition
Representatives from Seafair and partner Seattle Navy Leaguewhose mission is to
support the Sea Services and the men and women who serve through direct action and
enhancing community awarenesswill recognize the Port of Seattle for its continued
partnership in planning and supporting Seattle Seafair Fleet Week.
Seafair is Seattle's traditional summer festival that brings an entire community together
in celebration. For over 60 years, Seafair has been about community events, parades,
Miss Seafair, the Navy and Coast Guard, amateur athletics, airplanes and of course, boat
racing. But most of all, Seafair has been about people, and it continues to be.
Seafair Fleet Week has been a big part of this tradition in Seattle since 1950 with many
U.S. naval vessels annually coming into the Port of Seattle to celebrate this region's
premier summertime festival. In partnership with the Navy League Seattle Council and
Port of Seattle, Seafair Fleet Week honors the men and women of the military who
proudly and courageously serve our country.
Behind the scenes is a dedicated 40-member Board of Directors, a talented year-round
staff of only seven, and a dozen seasonal staff and summer interns that along with 5,000
volunteers bring it all together.
