PORT OF SEATTLE COMMISSION MOTION
STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF MOTION
Comprehensive immigration reform, creating legal and orderly processes for people who want to come
to the United States to work in trade and tourism-dependent businesses, is part of the economic
recovery process.
The Port of Seattle's success is tied to the success of our people and institutions. Economic recovery will
take the joint efforts of all our current and future citizens, native and naturalized alike, and documented
workers, to establish new businesses and expand trade and commerce. Comprehensive immigration
reform would help ensure all people in the United States are contributing fully to the formal economy as
is essential to a nation of laws.
The Port of Seattle Commission views the passage of comprehensive immigration reform as an urgent
matter of national economic and security policy and urges Congress to take up this matter.
