PORT OF SEATTLE MEMORANDUM COMMISSION AGENDA Item No.: 7A STAFF BRIEFING Date of Meeting: October 12, 2010 DATE: October 1, 2010 TO: Tay Yoshitani, Chief Executive Officer FROM: Geraldine Poor, Regional Transportation Manager Clare Gallagher, State Government Relations Manager SUBJECT: Washington Transportation Plan Update BACKGROUND: The Washington State Transportation Commission has released a draft Washington Transportation Plan 2011-2030 (WTP 2030) for public review and comment. WTP 2030 is a high-level policy plan to provide policy guidance and strategic recommendations across all transportation modes and regions in the state. The 2011-2030 planning horizon is a period in which significant change is expected in the state's growth, economy, mobility, and infrastructure investment needs, along with changes to come at the federal level for transportation. The Commission developed the plan over the past year, with ongoing engagement and input from a diverse Advisory Group including representation from Washington Public Ports Association. During September and October, the Commission has held Regional Listening Sessions around our state to solicit input on key questions and policies. The purpose of these sessions is to share information about the plan and engage both public agencies and private citizens to help shape the content and priorities of the Plan. Comments on the plan are welcomed through October 15, 2010. BRIEFING OUTLINE: In today's session, State Transportation Commissioner Richard Ford will present an overview of the plan and the significant challenges to meet the transportation needs statewide. The Port Commission's discussion of issues raised by the plan will be folded into the Port's comment letter for transmittal.
