Project location and phases
Existing system

Phase two

Phase one
Project Purpose: Provide adequate HVAC and redundancy
2

Phase 1: Provide adequate HVAC for NSTAR & D Concourse Annex
Scope
Replace and extend the existing 45-year-old undersized steam, condensate and
chilled water supply and return piping from the Central Mechanical Plant to the
new valve room building that will be in the north east corner of the north GT lot
east of the D concourse Annex sloped walkway.
Purpose
Existing piping is undersized for current and future projected system loads.
Project is required to supply adequate heating and cooling to the terminal
building and the new North Star Program

3

Phase 2- Provide Redundancy
Scope
Install steam, condensate, and chilled water supply and return piping from the
Central Terminal baggage level connection point to the new valve room building
that will be in the north east corner of the north GT lot east of the D concourse
Annex sloped walkway.
Purpose
Provide a fully redundant loop system
Enable any part of the airport terminal to operate Heating, Ventilation, and Air
Conditioning (HVAC) systems while being supplied from the south or north
steam, condensate, chilled water supply and return piping.
This level of redundancy currently exists for Concourse A, B, and the South
Satellite. Completing this project will enable airport wide HVAC system
redundancy for all concourses and satellites.
4

Budget Increase
Original Estimate based upon existing conditions at the time.
Coordination with Concourse D Annex and Baggage
Optimization project revealed significant cost increases due to
required alternate routing and addition of valve room.

5

Lessons Learned
AVPMG requiring additional site investigation earlier in design
to identify unknown conditions.
Increased project coordination requirements to go along with
initial estimates.

6

Our request
Commission authorization for the Executive Director to advertise and award a
construction contract for Phase 1 of the North Terminals Utilities Upgrade Project
at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Limitations of Translatable Documents

PDF files are created with text and images are placed at an exact position on a page of a fixed size.
Web pages are fluid in nature, and the exact positioning of PDF text creates presentation problems.
PDFs that are full page graphics, or scanned pages are generally unable to be made accessible, In these cases, viewing whatever plain text could be extracted is the only alternative.
