6c Memo Verizon Cellular Contract
COMMISSION AGENDA MEMORANDUM Item No. 6c ACTION ITEM Date of Meeting May 26, 2020 DATE: May 19, 2020 TO: Stephen P. Metruck, Executive Director FROM: Krista Sadler, Director Technology Delivery SUBJECT: Verizon Cellular Services Contract Authorization (Short Form) Amount of this contract: $10,000,000 ACTION REQUESTED Request Commission authorization for the Executive Director to execute a contract for Verizon Cellular Services in an amount not to exceed $10,000,000 for a term of up to ten years. SUMMARY Mobile phones and other mobile devices are important communication tools for many Port of Seattle employees. They are used by every Port organization including emergency response providers, maintenance, and operations for traditional communication, but they are also critical in applications supporting mobile workers such as inspections, security, and customer service. During the current COVID-19 response, a large percentage of our employee population is working from home, making cellular service even more critical to keep the Port operating and stay connected. Several different cellular service providers are utilized to ensure good coverage in a user's area at a fair price. Verizon service is used by approximately 1700 employees or 75% of our mobile device users. Intergovernmental cooperative agreements with Washington State are utilized in lieu of the Port's advertised competitiveprocess for procurement which saves time for the Port and vendors for products and services that are common across government agencies. Prices in Washington State contracts are competitive, and solicitation of women and minority owned businesses are a priority in the process. The current Washington State contract for Verizon service expires on 6/30/20 and a new contract has recently been competitively procured. Commission authorization is required to renew this contract under the new Washington State procurement. While the authorization is for a 10-year period, the contract will accommodate fluctuations in usage on a year-to-year basis. There are no attachments to this memo. Template revised April 12, 2018.
