Dear Port of Seattle Commissioners,
My name is Sarah Shifley. I am a Seattle resident and member of the 350 Seattle Aviation
Team.
As mentioned in the Commission Briefing Memo for Agenda Item 9(A), air travel through
Sea-Tac dropped dramatically. This presents the Port of Seattle a unique opportunity to
evaluate re-imagine airport operations and growth with an eye on our community's short term,
and long-term, well-being.
Prior to COVID-19, emissions from fuel pumped at Sea-Tac made up about a quarter of King
County's GHG emissions, before even considering that aviation emissions have a 2-4 times
greater climate warming impact than on-the-ground emissions. Sea-Tac traffic also exposes
communities -- mostly lower-income and non-white communities -- to disproportionately high
levels of air and noise pollution.
Now is the time for the Port to think about how economic recovery can occur without
returning to pre-COVID levels of air traffic, which impacted communities and the climate
cannot bear.
Thank you,
Sarah Shifley

Limitations of Translatable Documents

PDF files are created with text and images are placed at an exact position on a page of a fixed size.
Web pages are fluid in nature, and the exact positioning of PDF text creates presentation problems.
PDFs that are full page graphics, or scanned pages are generally unable to be made accessible, In these cases, viewing whatever plain text could be extracted is the only alternative.
