Good afternoon Commissioners and Executive Director Metruck. My name is Jordan Van Voast and a member of
Seattle Cruise Control, which continues to oppose any further expansion of the cruise ship industry in Seattle. 
First, I want to recognize the Port's symbolic act of goodwill by renaming several parks in honor of the Duwamish
tribe and their cultural history. May it lead to more acts of reconciliation with the Duwamish, and deeper
commitments to environmental sustainability, bringing the Port into alignment with the wisdom of Native people 
who understand how to live in connection with Mother Earth, without being consumed by the greed of industrial
expansion. 
I also empathize with your position as public servants who must grapple with the aftermath of COVID-19's
devastating effects on our regional economy, doing your best to provide employment for people who are
struggling to pay for housing and put food on the table, or keep small businesses open. But the winds of change
are rising. This economy, built on fossil fuel intensive travel, cannot survive much longer, and meanwhile climate
change continues ushering in its toll of suffering and death  with new fires in California, Hurricane Zeta to strike
the Gulf Coast in days, and refugees worldwide fleeing drought stricken areas in the highest numbers since World
War 2. 
When a cruise ship leaves Seattle for Alaska, it is disingenuous to stop counting the emissions at the Canadian
border. As Bill McKibben has said, physics doesn't lie, the atmosphere of the Earth is counting those CO2
molecules, even if we pretend not to see them. Thank you for listening.
