Public Comment - Exhibit E
From: laura gibbons To: Commission-Public-Records Subject: [EXTERNAL] Comment for the Jan 12 Port Commission meeting Date: Sunday, January 10, 2021 9:06:37 AM WARNING: External email. Links or attachments may be unsafe. Commissioners, Item 11 on today's agenda is "2020 Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy and Port of Seattle's Climate and Air Action Plan". I strongly support your "vision" of no greenhouse gasses by 2050, but urge you to think beyond the emissions generated by the Port facilities themselves to the emissions generated by the planes and ships using the ports. If you continue planning a tripling of aviation in that same time period, the carbon reductions gained by greener port facilities will be outweighed many times over by the green house gas emissions and other warming effects caused by the planes themselves. Unless you start focusing on a degrowth in aviation, you are causing much more harm than what you save by having Port operations carbon-neutral. We need you to develop dramatic plans and take strong actions that are consistent with regional climate goals, and we need this NOW. Sincerely, Laura Gibbons Seattle
