My name is Tyrell Hedlund. I am writing to urge the Port to pursue federal-level legislative and regulatory
changes that will facilitate a meaningful reduction in air travel. This should be your top legislative priority.
We now have just nine years to cut our emissions in half to avoid even more catastrophic impacts
of climate change. Emissions from fuel burned by planes flying in and out of Sea-Tac are one of the
Port of Seattle's largest, if not your largest, contribution to the climate crisis. These emissions have triple
the climate warming impact as on-the-ground emissions and must be reduced if we want to have any
chance of meeting necessary GHG emission reduction goals.
So-called "sustainable" aviation fuels are not a solution. They do nothing to reduce emissions from fuel
burn and is just greenwashing for airlines--and the Port--to continue with disastrous expansion.
