Dear Port of Seattle Commissioners (for 12/8/20 meeting). Re: # 11a on the agenda:
Federal Legislative Agenda for 2021, I wanted to point out the discrepancy between
our federal legislative goals in the areas of climate change/community focus, and the
constraints under which the Port currently suffers.
As broad as the Port's proposed federal legislative agenda is, it does not suffice to
deal with the enormity of the climate and environmental crisis before us, especially in
the areas of aviation and cruise ships.
I hope that the Port of Seattle will work on broadening its state mandate to enable it to
more freely promote climate stability, as well as a sustainable and equitable future.
In the meantime, the Port might want to reconsider our advocacy for rejacking up the
tourist industry in an attempted return to business as usual.
