Public Comment - Exhibit H
From: Sharla Dodd To: Commission-Public-Records Subject: [EXTERNAL] Port regular meeting 2/9/21 Date: Monday, February 8, 2021 10:18:22 AM WARNING: External email. Links or attachments may be unsafe. Dear Port of Seattle Commission Staff, See below for my written comment for the Port's 2/9/21 regular meeting and please summarize my comment as follows: "The 2021 Aviation Committee Work Plan needs an effective roadmap to reach its goal of a 50% aviation emissions reduction by 2030. Aviation emissions have triple the climate warming impact when compared to on-the-ground emissions and biofuels aren't an effective solution, so only bold action to reduce aviation will suffice." Please confirm that my comment was received. Thank you, Sharla __________________ Dear Port of Seattle Commissioners, I am commenting in regards to agenda item 11a, the 2021 Committee Work Plans. The Port's Aviation Committee Work Plan must delineate how it intends to meet its goal of a 50% reduction (from 2007 levels) of Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. We are less than a decade away from 2030 and the sustainable aviation fuels/biofuels that are the purported solution will not significantly reduce co2 emissions from aviation fuel burn. Additionally, aviation emissions have three times the warming impact of on-the-ground emissions, a fact that the Port has yet to fully acknowledge and account for. This necessitates an immediate and drastic reduction in aviation emissions. The time for incremental measures is behind us. The Port must lead the way in taking bold action to reduce aviation and related emissions now. Thank you, Sharla Dodd
