  • WITH TODAY'S SUNNY SKIES IT'S ALMOST HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IT WAS ONLY A WEEK AGO
  • SEA RECEIVE APPROXIMATELY 14 INCHES OF SNOW BETWEEN FRIDAY EVENING FEBRUARY 12 AND SUNDAY EARLY AFTERNOON AND THE INCIDENT COMMAND AT THE SNOW CONTROL CENTER WAS HUMMING THE WHOLE TIME
  • WE USED APPROXIMATELY 87,000 GALLONS OF LIQUID THE ICE ON THE AIRFIELD
  • APPROXIMATELY 9,000 GALLONS OF DICER ON THE ROADWAYS AND ROUGHLY 60 CUBIC YARDS OF ROADSIDE SAND
  • OVER 15,000,000 GALLONS OF WASTEWATER WAS COLLECTED IN OUR SYSTEMS FROM THE SNOW MELT
  • OVER IN MARITIME MARINE MAINTENANCE CREWS WERE ON HAND ALL WEEKEND REMOVING SNOW AT THE PORT OF SEATTLE PROPERTIES AND RESPONDING TO YARD FLOODING AND PONDING AFTER THE SNOW STARTED MELTING
  • WE CAN ALL BE VERY PROUD OF OUR EMPLOYEES' COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION TO SERVING THE PUBLIC AND THEIR FELLOW EMPLOYEES TO KEEPING THEM SAFE DESPITE THE WEATHER CONDITIONS

  • THE WINNER OF THE 2020 INNOVATION AWARD WENT TO THE TEAM BEHIND THE RENEWABLE NATURAL GAS PROCUREMENT IN LINE WITH THE PORT LONG RANGE PLAN AND CENTURY AGENDA
  • THE 2020 INNOVATION AWARD WINNERS PROCURED A NEW SOURCE OF RENEWABLE NATURAL GAS THAT REDUCES OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

  • TYPICALLY THESE PROJECTS ARE IMPROVING INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL CUSTOMER SERVICE OR INCREASING SAFETY
  • THESE PROJECTS ALSO INCREASE JOB SATISFACTION BY REDUCING THE FRUSTRATION OF INEFFICIENT PROCESSES
  • THE PROJECTS COMPLETED BY THIS GROUP INCLUDE INCREASING THE ON TIME DELIVERY OF SERVICE AGREEMENTS AT OUR CENTRAL PROCUREMENT OFFICE, TRANSITIONING A PROCESS REQUIRING IN OFFICE WORK TO A REMOTE ELECTRONIC PROCESS, IMPLEMENTING NEW PROCESSES IN ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE WHICH ELIMINATED 148 DOLLARS OF SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE AND REDUCED PROCESS STEPS BY 41%

  • KING COUNTY IS ALSO DEMONSTRATING THE SAME DOWNWARD TREND IN ALL KEY METRICS
  • PUBLIC HEALTH IS CONSCIOUSLY TRACKING THE NEW VIRAL VARIANTS CIRCULATING THE COMMUNITY
  • WITH ALL THIS INFORMATION WE CANNOT LOSE OUR FOCUS
  • IF MITIGATION IS RELAXED, THE NEW VARIANTS CAN SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT PROGRESSING TO DATE
  • REGARDING THE VACCINE, THE STATE OF WASHINGTON HAS GIVEN OVER 1,2,000,000 VACCINES TO WASHINGTON RESIDENTS WHERE THE GOAL IS TO PROVIDE 45,000 VACCINES PER DAY

  • IN FACT WE JUST PASSED THE SECOND SIGNIFICANT CUT OFF DEADLINE YESTERDAY WAS THE DEADLINE BY WHICH BILLS HAD TO MOVE THROUGH THEIR FISCAL COMMITTEES IN ORDER TO STAY VIABLE FOR PASSAGE THIS SESSION

  • THE BIGGEST NEWS SO FAR THIS SESSION IS PROBABLY THE BILL THAT GOVERNOR INSLEE SIGNED JUST A FEW DAYS AGO THAT MAKES POSSIBLE THE DISTRIBUTION OF 2.2 BILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDS
  • THOSE FUNDS PRIMARILY COMING FROM THE FEDERAL CARES ACT
  • THE LEGISLATION ALLOCATES THAT MONEY ACROSS A RANGE RECOVERY INITIATIVES MANY OF WHICH I THINK YOU'LL SEE REFLECT THE PRIORITIES THAT WERE ARTICULATED BY THE SENATE'S SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON ECONOMIC RECOVERY THAT CAME TOGETHER THIS SUMMER TO IDENTIFY THE PRIORITIES FOR ECONOMIC RECOVERY SO A FEW HIGHLIGHTS OF WHERE THAT FUNDING FROM THAT 2.2 BILLION DOLLARS PACKAGE WILL GO: 714,000,000 TO SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR K-12 ASSISTANCE, 618,000,000 TO THE STATE'S PUBLIC HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE INCLUDING 438,000,000 FOR CONTACT TRACING AND TESTING AND 68,000,000 FOR VACCINES; 365,000,000 FOR A VARIETY OF HOUSING RELATED ITEMS INCLUDING SOME RENTAL ASSISTANCE; AND THEN A 240,000,000 FOR BUSINESS ASSISTANCE GRANTS
  • THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE WILL BE MANAGING THE BUSINESS ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES GRANTS OF UP TO 75,000 TO SMALL BUSINESSES
